Why it’s Okay to Not Have it All Figured Out

Do you feel lost? Does your life seem like you’re aimlessly wandering and don’t have a specific destination in mind? It’s alright. It’s normal to feel that way at some point in our lives. People have a tendency to believe that when it comes to life, we should have everything figured out– that to be without purpose is to be a balloon drifting away mindlessly. But that is not always the case. Sometimes we have to be lost to find ourselves.

To be human is to grow, and as they say, the only thing that is constant in this world is change. It might feel like your way behind others or that it seems like you’re just stuck in one place– never changing. But don’t fret. It’s all part of the process. It will all lead you to the person you were meant to be, the person you’ve always been but have never noticed before. You just need to remind yourself of these simple things:

Go at your own pace because everyone has their own timeline.

Stop comparing yourself to other people. You need to go at it at your own pace. You don’t have to force yourself so much to conform to other people’s definitions of success. If it takes you five or twenty years to achieve your dream or for some, even to know it, it’s okay. There’s no need to hurry. The problem with people these days is that they are so focused on getting ahead that they don’t stop and think to ask whether they are happy. In this fast-paced world, walking and stopping to admire the flowers won’t hurt a bit.

If you can’t help but feel jealous or discouraged when you see other people’s achievements, you need to keep in mind that everyone is going through their own timeline. No matter how many years will pass, you’ll get your turn. You just have to be patient and work hard.

You don’t know what the future holds.

The future is uncertain. Every day we go through the daily motions of our lives having faith that tomorrow will come. We don’t know what it will entail. So, it is always best to hope for the better. You might not have a plan or a goal. But, who cares? The future is a blank canvas and you can paint it in whatever color you want. It might seem daunting, but life offers infinite possibilities. You can choose any path that you want and get lost in it because sooner or later you’ll find yourself right where you want to be.

No matter how much you worry and overthink about not knowing what next to do with your life, may it be about your career, family or love life, just take a deep breath and open yourself to the idea that you can never predict where you’ll be ten years from now or so. You can’t plan every single thing because there will be unexpected things that will come your way. That’s what makes life such an adventure. You’ll never know what tomorrow might bring.

You are a work in progress.

What makes us so unsure of what we want is because of the fact that we struggle with who we are. We don’t know what we want, and we have a lot of doubts. Sometimes we even feel ashamed that what we are doing is not enough– that we are not enough. Because of this, we tend to degrade ourselves. We give ourselves a hard time thinking of different scenarios of what things could be. We hope that things could be different.

But, we must remember that we need all of these moments to become better. You won’t know everything at the get-go. You need to experience what life is all about, from feeling happy because you did something worthwhile to feeling sad because you failed despite doing your best. Nowadays, we want to achieve success so quickly and so when we have difficulty in knowing where our passions lie, we feel inept. It doesn’t have to be that way. You don’t need to feel ashamed that you don’t know what you want to do. It’s normal. Nothing is set in stone. You just have to try and never forget that things will get better someday.

Don’t forget to pursue whatever makes you happy.

All we want is to be happy and content. Life is too brief to worry about every single thing. We can’t control things, and we just have to accept that. Even if we don’t have everything planned, as long as we are happy, that’s all that matters. The pursuit of happiness is a long and tedious road, especially for those who are lost. We need to be strong and persevere despite the odds.

Who also says you can’t be happy even though you are stuck? Maybe it is a sign that you need to reevaluate yourself and who you want to become. The uncertainty makes room for self-growth. And that’s one of the things you need to have on your road to happiness. You need to love and accept who you are first before anything else. Because how will you know what it’s like to be happy if you never found the time to explore yourself, your dreams and your wants.

The only thing you have to do is move forward.

As most people would say, keep on keeping on. You need to look forward to the future, cherish the present, and be thankful for the past. There’s no use in trying to think of things that have already been done or things that have not happened yet. Live in the moment every day and take as much time as you want. You don’t have to rush in achieving your goals because the only way you’ll be going is up. Every decision that you make is meant to give you what you’ve always wanted. You need to be patient because your time will come. Believe me. It will.
